1.31 - Where You Each Live

Everyone needs a place to sleep and keep stuff, plus shelter from the cold, rain, and radiation. Of equal importance, everyone needs a place to feel safe and comfortable. Unfortunately, good housing is hard to come by, and given how many people live on SB65 that makes it an expensive proposition. Most people make do with what they can find, and some scrape by with even less. If you can't swing a street-living permit, you've gotta go even lower.

Housing at Group Creation

During group creation, you'll roll dice to randomly determine everyone's housing situation. This is an abstraction meant to represent your current circumstances based on each group member's background and the whims of societal fate. Roll 3d12 once; each member of the group uses that same roll result, adding their $Index Value + Home Value to get their total. Then find that entry on the table below; this means that group members will generally live near each other, even if your circumstances are a little different. You'll never make this roll again, so no need to keep your Home Value anywhere. Just record your $Index and the housing option you rolled.
With that roll done, you just need to figure out the details. Where exactly is your home located? How far away from each other are the homes of your group members? If someone else lives with you, who are they? When your group gets together, do you all meet at a central location, or at one of your homes? If your home feels out of sync with your wealth, how did you end up there? What does your home feel like? What kind of places are nearby?
This roll also tells you which Social Level you live in, which can affect some STK checks. You can find out more about this in [section TBD].

Home Value

Don't forget to record your home's Value. Some cost physical $cratch and some are a debt on the $Index, work with your Narrator to figure out your exact situation. If you're renting your home legally from a corporate landlord, your rent will be covered by the Liability value of your home; if ever your $Index drops to 0 or lower, your front door becomes locked until that changes. Otherwise, you're probably renting from a gang, which means you'll have to pay $cratch once a month; fail to pay, and the consequences can be painful.
